Who will the change affect

The changes will affect anyone that has had a photovoltaic solar system installed and their electricity supplier has not received the application for Feed in Tarrifs by 12th December 2011.

Feed in Tariff eligibility senarios

  • If you have your Photovoltaic solar system installed and your Feed in Tariff application has been received by your elecricity supplier before before 12th December 2011 you will receive Feed in Tariff payment at the higher rate.

  • If you have your Photovoltaic solar system installed before the 12th of December 2011 but your electricity supplier receives your Feed in Tariff application after the 12th of December 2011. You will receive Feed in Tariff payments at the higher rate until the 31st of March 2012. From the 1st of April 2012 you will receive payments at the lower rate for the remainder of the 25 years.

  • Photovoltaic installations after 1st April 2012 will only be eligible for Feed in Tarfiff payments at the lower rate.

Be aware that the government proposal is still under consultation and is therefore not yet final.

FIT or Feed-in-Tariff is a UK government initiative to provide incentives to people who use renewable energy to produce electricity. This came into force from 01 Apr 2010. Feed-in-tariff gives you 3-way financial benefits:

  1. You are paid for every KWh of electricity that you produce and use
  2. You are also paid for the amount of electricity you feed back into the national grid
  3. You save on your energy bills.

Who is eligible for FIT?

Here are the eligibility criteria:

- Your renewable energy system should qualify for the FIT (PV qualifies)
- You should have installed your renewable energy system after 15th July 2009
- You must use MCS accredited equipment
- You must use MCS certified solar solutions provider or installer
