solar energy installation process
Solar Energy Installation Process
The solar energy installation process is quite simple and can be summed up into the following 4 steps:
- Self-assessment: This involves assessing the suitability of your home (un-shaded areas, direct sunlight, home orientation) and determining your requirements i.e. how much solar energy you want to harness and for what purpose, heating or electricity.
- Engaging a solar installer: In this step, you would engage a MCS certified solar panel installer. The solar installer in turn will conduct a feasibility analysis and site survey. The solar power installer will then provide you with solar installation options (as per your requirements) and the quote for each option. The solar installer will also provide advice on grants, Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) and Feed-In-Tariffs (FIT).
- Permissions and Solar Panel Installation: The solar panel installers will then install the solar panels. Note that, though planning permissions are not required for most solar installations, it would be best if you do a quick check with the local authorities (world heritage sites, listed buildings, conservation areas, wild life protection are the factors which necessitate checking with local authorities).
- Grants and Incentives: You can get grant for solar thermal systems and incentives (RHI and FIT) for solar thermal and solar pv systems.
So, it is really a simple and straightforward process. The only important thing to note is that you must use a MCS certified solar power systems provider in order to avail the incentives and grants. That’s a mandatory requirement.
